Lady Lakers roll past Massac

The Calloway County Lady Lakers pretty much assured themselves of winning the City of Metropolis Girls' basketball tournament last night as they defeated host Massac County 55-40.

Calloway got off to a slow start as they trailed 13-5 after one quarter and 19-18 at the half. They hit just two of their first 17 shots. Then they bounced back to make 19 of their next 36 shots. As a result they led 36-31 after three quarters and won going away.

Calloway was led in scoring by Averee Fields who had 15 points. Kayla Cunningham had 12, Kristin Boggess had 11, Karlee Wilson had three and Brittany Fox had three. Taylor Futrell, Lauren Benson and Emily Chrisman each had two. And Karra Jones had one point.

6-2 center Jasmine Davis led Massac with 17 points.

Calloway plays Marion on the final day of the round robin tournament on Thursday. Marion suffered a blow-out loss to Massac on Monday night. A victory would give the Lady Lakers the chmpionship.

Last night's win makes the Lady Lakers 3-0 to start the season.
